Shetland is a British pony breed from the Shetland Islands in northern Scotland. It is one of the smallest equidae in the world, which is due to its adaptation to the rigorous biotope of its original island. The Shetland was a great success in the 1850s thanks to its small size, which allows it to sneak into the narrow galleries to carry coal or metals.
